Masaka Cycling Club

Masaka Cycling Club is an amateur cycling team based in Masaka District, Southern Uganda. The club is primarily a humanitarian project funded by individuals throughout the Global Cycling Community. The youth of Masaka is based in a very poor region and require encouragement, social, financial, and equipment support to allow them to chase their hopes & dreams. Central Uganda is a very poor region within the East African Nations and is home to the first known case of AIDS/HIV, a disease that destroyed generations of Ugandans. Despite these challenges, it boasts some extraordinary female and male cycling talent, yet this talent faces many barriers. Poverty, corruption, clean water, infrastructure, equipment, and consistent access to races to showcase this talent to name a few.

The Masaka Cycling Club is also part of the Project Amani initiative, which comprises sister clubs in Kenya and Rwanda. Their collective goal is to balance the current inequalities within pro pelotons and promote East African riders to professional cycling communities. This ongoing project has been created to enable cycling fans and humanitarians from all over the world to support cyclists in this region, be it through subscription donation, or word of mouth. Doing this assists the Masaka Cycling Club riders, helping to free them from the barrier of poverty, instilling hope and helping them chase their cycling dreams.

In 2023 The Rhino Run won't have an entry fee; however, riders will be required to donate AUD $139 to the Masaka Cycling Club Foundation in Uganda. The donation will help cover the costs for Masaka Cycling Club riders to get to the start line of the Rhino Run. Any extra funds will be put into the MCC foundation to support more members and improve the team clubhouse in Masaka.
